ADVANTAGES OF HAVING A PERSONAL FITNESS TRAINING COACH
Joining a gym is the first step to regaining fitness or improving strength and stability… but simply logging time on the machines and treadmills isn’t the answer. To avoid injury and to see results, you must workout with correct form, a good routine, and stay motivated to keep at it.
You may think that coaches are for Olympians and professional athletes, but consider this: the human body functions the same regardless if it belongs to a professional hockey player or an office worker, so why does one deserve guidance and a plan with goals, while the other only deserve random machines and an hour of spare time?
At The Athlete Factory, our coaches will prepare a fitness and nutrition plan that is just for you. Your schedule, your lifestyle, your activity level (in and out of the gym), your dietary requirements, and your goals all play a role in how your program will proceed, and your personal trainer will be there, step by step, to guide you through your entire program of health and fitness development.
Your program will integrate a wide range of training disciplines and methods, ensuring your interest is high and your body is always challenged in a variety of ways. Following your initial consultation and movement assessments, your coach will develop your personalized training plan. Designed to be progressive and challenging, the plan will take you through all facets of fitness development, making sure that you are not just leaner, but also stronger, more flexible, stable and agile.
No matter your age or physical level, a good training regime will ensure that you stay limber, energetic, strong, maintain good bone density, and even stay mentally alert. The key is to do it correctly, and to do it consistently.
FUNCTIONAL FITNESS: TRAIN YOUR BODY TO WORK AS A WHOLE, NOT JUST AS PARTS.
Our philosophy is that the human body must work as a whole to work its best in the real world. To put this into practise, all our fitness regimes are based on functional exercises that ensure a strong core to support you through your daily life.
Functional exercises are designed to train the body to work as one unit. Rather than focus on building the biggest biceps, these exercises are meant to ensure that when you must lift your child’s car seat into your truck, you are able to do so with minimal strain and full control; when you are enjoying a leisurely rock climb with friends that you can use your whole body to pull yourself to the next ledge, and that you are able to hold yourself upright and balance over icy sidewalks in the winter using the tiny stabilizer muscles that grow weak when unused.
It all begins with controlling your own body weight and then progresses gradually until you are able to work under heavier and heavier freeweights. By building muscular control first, you will gain balance and form – the foundation upon which true strength can grow. You will move better when you walk, or stretch, or run. Your body will not ache trying to use its larger muscles to do all the work. Once balance is found, strength can be added.

“I started personal training with Tara Eckert to provide support and encouragement for a family member; she was weight-lifting to overcome a hip injury. Almost two years later, I’m still training weekly. This fact speaks volumes for the skill, enthusiasm, and patience of Tara and the staff at the Athlete Factory. I’m certainly not an athlete – I train to feel good about myself, and to maintain muscle strength and energy. I always feel extraordinarily welcome and supported in my efforts.” – Karen Burton
